Diehl and Dr. Debbie Denise Reese won the 2009 Best in Traditional Research award for their presentation, "Preparing Students to Learn Intractable Science Concepts with Game-based Metaphor-Enhanced Instructional Design" at the 4th Annual Western Illinois University Faculty Research Symposium.
Dr. Jon Gurutz Rementería Sempé, mayor of Veracruz, Mexico, named CyGaMEs principal investigator and Center for Educational Technologies senior educational researcher Dr. Debbie Denise Reese a Distinguished Visitor for her participation in the 1st International Meeting on Evaluation for Mid-Higher Level Education and College Level Education. Over 350 educators, scholars, evaluators, academics, officials, and psychometricians attended the Sept 2008 event. Reese’s keynote talk explained how CyGaMEs' Selene: A Lunar Construction GaME design and assessment opens the door to teaching and learning opportunity in networked education. Selene won a semifinalist honor in the category of interactive media in the 2007 International Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge sponsored by the National Science Foundation and Science Magazine.
Selene: A Lunar Construction GaME was named "One of the Most Talked About" Serious Games at the GDC Serious Games Summit, 2006.
